What should her name be?

Recently, DH and I have been thinking about possibly going for kid #2.  Still a slightly scary prospect for me but I don’t think it will ever NOT be.  We’ve been having some fun with Monkey in the meantime while we make up our minds.  We’ve started asking him if he would like a baby brother or baby sister.  At first the answer was an emphatic “NO” to both.  But recently, he’s picked one and to our surprise it’s always “sisser” (that’s how he pronounces it).

Last week DH decided to throw in another follow-up question, “What should her name be?”  At first, Monkey didn’t quite get it and would simply repeat the question each time we asked.  But he surprised DH earlier this week when he said, “Princess!”  Both DH and I got a kick out of this and it’s been our favorite game ever since.  I didn’t even realize he knew the word or let alone that it is usually reserved for girls.  There is only one girl at his daycare on a regular basis (other two are there for half days on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and I suppose he picked this up from them!  Or maybe it was that visit to the ER a few weeks back where they had Disney Princess Wallies on the wall in the ER unit we were stationed … short story there, he’s okay and I need to watch him getting out of restaurant booths more carefully.

So if DH and I go for #2 and should it turn out to be a girl, I’m toying with the idea of her online moniker being Princess — although I’m not sure how well Monkey and Princess go together.  AND I’m not sure I even like that moniker.  AND before any of you smart asses say anything, should theoretical kid #2 turn out to be a boy, his moniker will NOT be Princess! :)

Schizo Boy

I need to stop using this term but it fits his behavior lately.  I’ll give you an example (this happened yesterday):

Me:  Let’s have mac and cheese for lunch.

Monkey:  I don’t WANT mac and cheese!

Me:  Well, it’s that or Peanut Butter and Jelly.

Monkey:  I don’t WANT Peanut Butter and Jelly!

Me:  Okay, mac and cheese then.

Monkey:  I don’t WANT mac and cheese.

Me:  Well, we’re having mac and cheese.

Monkey (still in the same upset tone):  I WANT mac and cheese.

Me:  You want mac and cheese?

Monkey:  I don’t WANT mac and cheese.

Me:  You don’t want mac and cheese?

Monkey:  I WANT mac and cheese.

Me:  Okay then, we’re having mac and cheese.

Monkey (still upset):  OKAY!

Does this happen to any of you who have toddlers?  This happens a LOT with different things, not just meals.  Going to the grocery store or playing with X toy instead of Y.  It’s starting to bother me and I’m wondering if it’s normal.  Need to do some research.
