About a month or so ago, I took the iPod player/speakers we had bought just before Monkey was born out of hiding from the disorganized mess we call our “home office”. I set it up in our kitchen and one morning, I decided to play some music while Monkey and I got the chance to wake up. Okay, who are we kidding, it was to wake me up.
This has become a regular occurance now not only in the morning during breakfast but just about anytime Monkey is in the kitchen. He’ll request, “SONGS!” And this was really cute, so of course, we obliged.
Then it became, “MY SONGS!” He would no longer tolerate DH playing some BT or me playing some Leonard Bernstein. It had to be HIS songs, various children’s music I have downloaded or purchased. Finicky little bugger.
It’s not so bad. I could shoot myself for one of the albums I bought where the children who are singing the songs are so shrill you just want to strangle something. But others aren’t so bad, and I have a strong recommendation for Snack Time, by the Barenaked Ladies or Here Come the 123s (The Disney Mickey Mouse Clubhouse), by They Might Be Giants, should you be in the market for pleasant, non-suicidal children’s music. My favorite song is Raisins from the Barenaked Ladies. Give it a listen. Very catchy tune with just enough wit to amuse a parent and nonsense to amuse kids.
Pretty much since day 1, I have restricted the children’s music to the car. We also discovered the joy of the iPod speakers in the family room/kitchen area, but there is no children’s music on either of our iPods.
BTW, I’ve been meaning to tell you for almost 2 years… That Pottery Barn kids CD you got me for my baby shower? It’s AWESOME! Really good songs that are sung nicely. The Pumpkin LOVES that CD, and I actually enjoy it too. Thanks so much!

You’re welcome! I have a copy of it as well. I originally bought it for another baby shower for an old high school friend but ended up not going to the shower so I kept it! It’s one of the ones I like thankfully. If I had given you the other one I downloaded from iTunes, I would demand it back from you out of self-respect!

haha! I like how demanding he is about his music!
we used to have to use music to get Aria to sleep (when she was under a year old). she just started wanting music at bedtime again, so we play her rockabye baby CDs.

we got the NIN, Radiohead, and Smashing Pumpkins. right now she really likes the Smashing Pumpkins!
her other favorite song (to dance to) is Boom Boom Pow, Black eyed peas. I just HATE it, but it’s fun to watch her “shake her booty”
