Why is my scalp burning?

FYI — don’t put hair dye on and then go read mommy blogs.

I was sitting at my desk earlier tonight, reading the usual suspects along with some other new blogs and sites, when just for a second I thought to myself, “Why is my scalp burning?”

OH.  DOH.  You put hair dye on about 40 minutes ago.  DERP.

Luckily, for me, it doesn’t seem to have come out too dark.  In fact, my dye resistant grays are still a little light.  But I did lose about 2 quarter sized clumps of hair.  :(

If they can’t make fun of themselves …

Here are a few fun links which poke fun at both sides of this Presidential race:

Sarah Palin Baby Name Maker (btw, mine was Falter Locust Palin)

Time for Some Campaigning (from the folks who brought you This Land in 2004)

Barack: He Completes Us (from the Daily Show — great video, sums up the extreme ideas about the man from both ends and is, of course, hilarious.)

Have fun!

BuBu Bear or Blue Monkey?

Monkey (my son) has taken on a favorite lovey, comfort object or whatever you want to call it.  Actually, he fell in love with it months ago but I haven’t mentioned it because I’m trying to get him to transfer that love and comfort feeling to his blue stuffed monkey.

Why?

Well, BuBu Bear is a one of a kind.  He came with a diaper cake we received from my MIL during the baby shower.  Plus, he’s not really machine washable and his fur isn’t “crib safe” meaning Monkey can rip it out with his teeth (and did for a little bit there).  So I wanted to find something simliar for him that he could not eat the fur of and could be machine washed as often as needed without falling apart, thus ending the love affair.  Plus, finding something online or at a store, meant we could buy TWO of them, should one be lost.  Which we have … so we have a back up for something he won’t attach to … yet.

BuBu and Blue Monkey

BuBu and Blue Monkey

In the picture shown, you’ll see BuBu Bear and Blue Monkey.  I like Blue Monkey for all of the reasons mentioned before, plus he’s pretty cute.  I like BuBu bear too because he’s soft and so flimsy that my Monkey (not the stuffed one) can wrap his little hand around BuBu’s neck to carry him around the house.  Plus, he was the stuffed animal I used during the breastfeeding class.  Which brings me to next point …

Could it be the reason Monkey likes BuBu so much is that the bear smells like me when he was in the womb?  Does that even make sense?  Or is it because BuBu is very pliable and easy to tote around?

And why does he reject the Blue Monkey so much?  He’ll sleep with him in the crib but he doesn’t hold him or cuddle him like he does BuBu.  Is it because his stuffing is a little more substantial?  Or because we haven’t given him a cute name like BuBu possesses?

I slept with Blue Monkey last night to see if infusing him with my scent would make a difference.  So far it hasn’t.  I put both in his crib tonight and when I checked on him before getting online, Blue Monkey was at the far corner of the crib, neglected.  And BuBu was safely tucked under the arm of my Monkey.

I really want him to like Blue Monkey for all of the practical reasons and I’m starting to feel bad for that inanimate object which is crazy, I know.  Maybe it’s needs a name.  Something simple that my Monkey could pronounce when he feels ready.  What do you think about Abe?  Or JoJo? Or KiKi?

All Natural Hair Product

Monkey decided that he wanted to use some natural hair product in his hair at dinner this evening.

Can you guess what that is?

Can you guess what that is?

In case you haven’t guessed, it’s avacado!

The move went well

The transfer of posts from Blogger to WordPress was a cinch.  Really, I was in shock at how amazingly easy it was.

THEN …

I wanted to use the Picasa Photo Widget.  This widget can only be installed on WordPress blogs not hosted on the free WordPress environment.  I have a “free credit” with Go Daddy because I bought my domain name there and I thought of using it to host this blog so I could use the Picasa widget.  Then when I tried to install WordPress on that hosting account, Go Daddy informed me that I needed upgrade my service to use that blog add-on.  Bullshit.  Really.  Bullshit.

So then I thought, okay, I’ll just use the freebie WordPress environment and use the Flickr widget, meaning I’d have to create an account with them.  But then as I was adding a page to this site, I realized I didn’t need to do that either!  WordPress already comes with a gallery feature!  Again, a couple minutes and VOILA!  Photo Gallery … password protected nonetheless!  Which is the real reason I made the switch.  This is so much more like my original homegrown blog (the posts labeled “Pre-blogger”) where I could have a blog, a photo gallery and whatever else I wanted.  But I don’t have to maintain the code!  Just my stuff!  So in the end, I just needed to change my nameservers for my domain name (plus buy $10 worth of WP credits/year to have a domain pointed at my WordPress blog but that’s cheaper than the $5/month I’d have to pay if hosting it completely with Go Daddy).

I’m sorry to say but the gallery is for close friends I know personally and family.  I just don’t feel comfortable giving out the password to everyone yet.  But who knows, if I get to know you well “virtually”, perhaps I will open it up to virtual friends as well.
