Today I was thinking about the multitude of names I have for Monkey. Oddly enough, “Monkey” isn’t really used in real life that much. Occassionally, I will call him this.
I realized that there are certain times when I use certain nicknames I have for Monkey. Obviously, “Monkey” is used here. However, when he’s done something that’s not worth reprimanding but I still wish he hadn’t done it or was about to do it, I usually say, “Oh Buddy.” Then there’s the getting-out-of-the-car or other exciting moments (for Monkey anyway) when I usually call him, “Baubba Do”. For instance, while pulling him out of his car seat I’ll say, “Alright, Baubba Do, let’s go!”
Poor kid is probably so confused with all of the names I call him. That’s why I’ve been making an effort to call him by his REAL name more often recently.
Do you have a multitude of nicknames for your children or just the one?
Oh yeah, we’ve got a million nicknames for the Pumpkin, including Pumpkin. We are nickname people, and I’ve called her so many things I can’t count! From monkeygirl to princess to muffin pie. And those don’t even count the variations on her actual name!
Sometimes I use nicknames, but not often. We have a habit of always saying her name when talking to her, so now she says things in the same way. It’s a little weird when she says “Wash hands….Aria” or “Aria has dress on”. Every once and a while she will throw a ME or I in there, but she just usually uses her name. It makes us laugh because it sounds like she’s talking to herself. She’ll figure it all out one day.
On a related subject. Goofydaddy and I use our names to each other all the time too and she’s picked up on that. Sometimes she skips saying Mommy/Daddy and goes right to the first name. Haha. It’s funny, but we are trying really hard to call each other Mommy/Daddy.
Sasha is neither Sasha’s real name, nor is it one we use at home. Actually, it’s one an older relative of mine uses and she’s sort of alone in that.
For nicknames, we tend to to with Bud-bud and the generally accepted short-hand for his real name.
